Getting into Gas
In the last eight years we have helped several hundred new entrants become competent gas engineers. We provide support for the complete journey from novice to qualified gas engineer.
What you need
Before you can take the main competence assessment in gas safety (called ACS or CCN1) you need:
- provable supervised gas work experience
- training at an approved place of learning
- a basic gas qualification
We can help you get all of these things.
About the training course
Our Guild of Gas Fitting Operatives course gives you three weeks of practical and theory training. It starts from the basics of gas and moves on to advanced topics including tightness testing, purging, ventilation, pipe sizing, gas rate/heat input, flue testing, commissioning, servicing and much more.
If successful in the assessment you will get a basic gas certificate which you can then use as part of the entry requirements for ACS / CCN1.
If you are unsuccessful in any assessment we will give you a second try free.
Work placement
After the training course you will work under the direct supervision of a registered gas engineer while building a portfolio of gas work. This usually takes around 6 months.
If you have any supervised gas work experience from the last two years it can be used in the portfolio.
We have a large number of previous customers with expanding businesses so we can help you find a placement with an experienced engineer. Unlike some other training companies we do not charge for this service.
Getting registered
With the completed portfolio you come back for CCN1 assessment, with an optional two days' refresher training. If successful you can then join the Gas Safe Register (formerly CORGI) as a competent gas engineer and thereafter work legally on gas installations without supervision.
